When you're running multiple custom home builds across the mountains of Western North Carolina, you can't be everywhere at once. Jobsites are remote. Cellular service is weak or nonexistent. Plans, documents, and project management tools live in the cloud. Subs need connectivity. Clients want updates. And nobody has time to drive out to every site just to check on progress.

A custom home builder in the Asheville area came to us with exactly this problem. They needed reliable internet and camera visibility on active jobsites β€” locations with no wired infrastructure, poor cell service, and no easy answers using conventional networking approaches.

We're building them a solution that solves all of it in a single, portable kit β€” with secure connectivity and remote visibility built in from the start.

The Problem: Remote Sites with No Infrastructure

β€”

No connectivity: Many custom home builds in WNC happen in mountain areas where cellular service is unreliable or simply absent. There's no wired internet, no fiber, no cable β€” just a raw site with power.

β€”

Cloud tools need internet: Modern construction management means plans, schedules, RFIs, and communication all live in cloud platforms. Without connectivity, crews lose access to the tools they depend on.

β€”

No eyes on the site: Running multiple active builds means the builder can't physically be present at every location every day. Without cameras, the only way to check progress, verify deliveries, or monitor the site is to drive out there.

β€”

Every site is temporary: A solution that requires permanent infrastructure installation doesn't make sense for a construction site. The kit needs to move when the project wraps up.

The Solution: A Self-Contained, Portable Jobsite Kit

We're designing a self-contained unit that brings enterprise-grade connectivity and surveillance to any jobsite β€” regardless of location. The entire system is housed in a weatherproof fiberglass enclosure designed for the realities of an active construction environment: dust, vibration, changing weather, and rough handling.

The design goal was simple: deliver it to the site, plug it in, and have secure internet and cameras running within minutes. No configuration headaches, no technician visit required for deployment.

Starlink

Satellite internet that works anywhere with a clear view of the sky β€” no cell towers, no wired hookup required. Consistent, fast, and reliable even in remote mountain locations.

Ubiquiti UniFi Networking

UniFi access points and routing gear distribute secure WiFi across the entire jobsite β€” strong signal for crew devices, project management tools, and camera uplinks.

UniFi Protect Cameras

Remote camera visibility across the jobsite β€” the builder can pull up live feeds from any site on their phone, check progress, verify deliveries, and monitor the job without driving out.

Weatherproof enclosure

All components are housed in a ruggedized fiberglass enclosure built to handle jobsite conditions. The entire unit is portable β€” when a project wraps up, it moves to the next site.

Why This Matters Beyond One Builder

This isn't a one-off custom project β€” it's a productized, repeatable solution. Any custom home builder, general contractor, or commercial builder running jobs in remote areas of Western North Carolina faces the same core problem: no infrastructure, no connectivity, and no visibility without physically being on site.

The kit we're building is designed to be deployed on any site, returned after the project, and reused. That makes the economics work for builders who need connectivity on a rotating portfolio of active sites rather than a single permanent location.

For builders managing multiple concurrent projects across the mountains, the ability to pull up a live camera feed from any site β€” at any time, from anywhere β€” changes how they operate. Less windshield time. More visibility. Better accountability with crews, subs, and clients.

The bottom line

"Deliver it to the site, power it up, and the crew has internet and cameras within minutes β€” no permanent infrastructure, no complicated setup."

Remote jobsites in WNC don't have to mean blind spots and disconnected crews. A self-contained Starlink and Ubiquiti kit puts connectivity and visibility on any job β€” and moves when the project does.
